My Story

Who am I? What's my story?

How it all started

Hello! I am Melissa Elliott and I am super pumped that you somehow for some reason found your way to my portfolio website. I hope you take a moment and look through my work and feel free to contact me with any questions or if you just want to talk.

You may ask yourself how I got started in design. Well, after receiving my Associate's in Science and working my way to pursuing a degree in Optometry. I made the decision to turn the world on its' head and pursue something else. Something that's not as definite as graphs, charts, and math. I chose to try out design. Art has always been apart of my life and although the science field will always fascinate me I chose to take a chance on it. I dipped my toes in by learning the Adobe Creative Suite before fully jumping into design head first.

Once I decided this was the path I wanted to take I then applied to College for Creative Studies for a degree in Graphic Design. After years of hard work, countless sleepless nights, loads and loads of design work, sponsored projects, a ton of presentations, and a bunch of deadlines I made it! I graduated the spring of 2017 with my Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Graphic Design.

A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Philosophy

I have spent my years of school trying to figure out what my style is and what are the important nuggets of information to keep along the way. Although, there are several things I have learned and will keep with me my design philosophy is to always try new things.

I have found that trying new things when designing can often lead to the solution you didn't know was there. It offers you options to expand your techniques and lets your creativity flow in a new direction that is not incredibly linear.
